For a number of different reasons, I have decided to wind up the blogs Ukiyo-e of the Week and Japankonst. That is, I'm not going to publish new material. However, until further notice, they will remain available as works of reference and inspiration.

Settei: Painting |
This is a painting by Tsukioka Settei (1710-1786). Even if it is unsigned, there is no real doubt about the artist. As for dating, it must be from 1767-1773.
For the background, Settei used silver - although now strongly oxidised. It should resemble mirrors and it is likely that the woman was reflected there.
